A former appellate Assistant United States Attorney, Eli has argued 20 federal appeals. He has led briefing on dozens more matters, from trial courts through the United States Supreme Court. Beyond presenting legal argument, Eli’s courtroom experience includes taking direct testimony and cross-examinations. He has won numerous precedent-setting cases presenting novel legal issues. While a federal prosecutor, Eli also served on the Committee on Federal Criminal Jury Instructions of the Seventh Circuit.
Eli clerked for the Honorable Diana E. Murphy of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the Honorable Patrick J. Schiltz of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. He also previously worked at the Minneapolis office of a global law firm, primarily handling commercial and financial litigation. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was an Executive Editor on Michigan Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
