Pitney Bowes Inc.
v.
Hewlett Packard

Mike, Jan and Katie were trial counsel for Pitney Bowes in a patent infringement dispute against Hewlett Packard over laser jet printers.  The technology involved using spots of different sizes to smooth the edges printed by laser printers to remove the stair-step effect of printing. In June 2001, on the first day of trial, the case settled with Hewlett Packard agreeing to pay Pitney Bowes $400 million and other intellectual property considerations.
